Monster Hunter Wilds: Jin Dahaad can freeze locales it isn’t supposed to be in and even cool down lava, mod reveals

Monster Hunter Wilds modders test what happens if you teleport Jin Dahaad all over the map – turns out its abilities can even cool down lava.

Monster Hunter Wilds mods are both scary and interesting. One minute you have hairless and featherless monsters running around, the next you can create Zoh Shia Hammers shaped like Xbox Series S consoles. By modifying the game’s code, YouTube channel MonsterSlayer Squad was able to take the game’s current biggest monster, the Jin Dahaad, and transport him all over The Forbidden Lands.

Endemic to the Iceshard Cliffs and fought only in Rimechain Peak, the Jin Dahaad is the area’s apex monster. Using its body’s metallic plates, the Jin Dahaad can drastically lower its body temperature as well as that of its surroundings. In battle, the Jin Dahaad will use its temperature-changing abilities to launch frozen breath blasts and area-of-effect (AoE) attacks that damage and freeze its enemies. Its strongest attack has it encasing itself in a wall of ice before unleashing a massive AoE explosion.

Because of the Jin Dahaad’s massive size and ability to affect its surroundings, MonsterSlayer Squad took the monster and placed it in areas it shouldn’t be. Surprisingly, all of the environments were affected by Jin Dahaad’s ice-based attacks. Local fauna and rock formations turned white, while icicles grew on the land that the Jin Dahaad passed through.

The Jin Dahaad’s most interesting interactions occurred when it made contact with water or lava. While the Jin Dahaad’s ice-based attacks didn’t cause water to freeze (as evidenced when the monster was placed in areas like the Scarlet Forest), it could cool down the lava in the Oilwell Basin. The Jin Dahaad’s ability to encase itself in ice is even more astonishing when executed in seemingly unsuitable climates.

Whereas most Monster Hunter Wilds content is focused on the slaying of monsters, the MonsterSlayer Squad YouTube channel has several videos that deal with monster ecology, biology, and anatomy. If those aren’t your thing, there is also a second channel dedicated to straight-up monster deathmatch videos for those that love some good old violence.

Monster Hunter Wilds is out now on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam).
