We recently reported on how game developers famous for their storytelling, like Yoko Taro and Kotaro Uchikoshi, predict the evolution of AI will impact the gaming industry and game development as a profession. Yoko briefly expressed concern that in the near future, game creators may lose their jobs because of AI, leading game development to be treated as a lost art, and game creators – as bards.
Yoko Taro recently followed up on these claims on his X account, posting more predictions of how the development of AI technology may influence the gaming industry.
In his post, he lists three things he believes will happen as AI becomes more advanced and widespread.
- Using AI, regular people will become creators
- You won’t be able to make a living as a creator anymore
- However, people who want to create games will do so even if they can’t make a living out of it
He jokes, however, that most of his predictions for the future almost always turn out to be false, asking his followers not to think too deeply about them. In a follow-up quote post, he explains that he predicted that CG motion would be the first thing automated using AI – which was proven to be false. It’s safe to say that he doesn’t trust his own predictions either, so rest assured that AI won’t be taking over the gaming industry anytime soon – or at least we hope so.
