Following the commercial success of the Devil May Cry Netflix series and its season 2 announcement, executive producer Adi Shankar has expressed interest in the BlazBlue fighting game series. Shankar’s X post showing an image of the Blazblue logo has fans both excited and worried should he adapt the beloved Arc System Works franchise into a series.
Some veteran fans and people unfamiliar with Castlevania, Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, and Devil May Cry like Shankar’s animated series. Others are more critical of his work, saying they do not do justice to their source material.
While the debate regarding the quality of Shankar’s work remains open, certain people just want to see the producer adapt their favorite video game franchise into an animated series. There have already been requests (some honest, some ironic) for adaptations of Metal Gear Solid, Guilty Gear, the Tales franchise, and many more, though Shankar has yet to respond to any of them.
Those eager for a BlazBlue animated series might want to hold off on reacting, though. Ankar’s recent string of X posts has him ranting (most likely trolling) about how he would drastically change certain aspects of BlazBlue, such as its main protagonist, Ragna the Bloodedge. Another post has Shankar asking fans for their enemy’s name and favorite IP, presumably under the context of creating a bad animated series.
Then again, perhaps Shankar is just expressing his love for BlazBlue and nothing more. Video game developers like Masahiro Sakurai have been known to post about their interests with no hidden meanings behind them, and the same can be said for executive producers.
