Teruyuki Toriyama announced the establishment of the new game development company Sirius Studio on April 10. The company is a wholly owned subsidiary of Gz Group, and will be dedicated to large-scale development of console games and VR/XR games.
Until his departure from SIE at the end of 2020, Toriyama was a producer at Japan Studio, with credits on titles like Bloodborne, Demon’s Souls, Astro Bot: Rescue Mission and Soul Sacrifice. His next home was Thirdverse, where he developed Soul Covenant. However, due to the company changing its orientation towards casual game development (source: Famitsu), Toriyama decided to establish his own game studio under Gz, with the aim of working on bigger projects. He now serves as director, CPO and general producer at Sirius Studio.

While Gz primarily dabbles in PC/mobile games and VR projects, Sirius Studio will be more strictly oriented towards high-end console and VR/XR games aimed for global release. The studio will work on both new IPs and existing IPs belonging to other companies. Toriyama says that it will likely take some time before they are able to announce anything specific, but the studio intends to start big, going for high-end development from their first project. Their team currently counts 20 staff members experienced in AAA and AA development, with plans for further expansion.
Further updates can be expected via Sirius Studio’s official homepage.
