Toho have revealed a new trailer for the movie adaptation of hit Japanese indie game The Exit 8. It will screen in Japanese movie theaters from August 29, 2025. At the time of writing, plans for an international release are not known.
Made by Japanese solo developer Kotake Create, The Exit 8 is a walking simulator set in the looping underground passageways and backrooms of a subway station. Players must successfully spot anomalies in their surroundings in order to reach Exit 8 and escape. Debuting on Steam in November 2023, the game became a huge surprise hit. It has since been ported to the Nintendo Switch and PS4/PS5.
The Exit 8 movie will recreate the creepy corridors of the game, as well as its ubiquitous middle-aged salaryman NPC. The movie’s first trailer was from a first-person POV, however, the second trailer reveals that singer and actor Kazunari Ninomiya (member of the boyband Arashi) will be taking on the role of the player/main character. It seems that he may also have to save not only himself from the anomalies, but also a little boy.
The Exit 8 movie will be shown in movie theaters in Japan from August 29 onwards (official site).
