During the latest Silent Hill Transmissions stream held on March 14, Konami officially announced Silent Hill f. The latest entry in the franchise enlists acclaimed visual novel author Ryukishi07 as its lead writer, which many consider to be a match made in heaven given his proven track record in the psychological horror and mystery genres.
But fans of Ryukishio7’s Umineko: When They Cry and Higurashi: When They Cry series have even more to look forward to in Silent Hill f, as the game’s original soundtrack will feature music by 7th Expansion composers Dai and Xaki.
While Silent Hill f’s sound design will predominantly be handled by series’ veteran Akira Yamaoka (who will write music for the Fog World) and Kensuke Inage (writing music for the Otherworld/Dark Shrine), it seems Dai and Xaki will contribute music for specific scenes of the game. In the Silent Hill Transmissions stream, Ryukishi07 comments, “These two musicians have always helped elevate the quality of my work. For Silent Hill f, I asked for their assistance on scenes I really wanted to heighten.”

As an aside, Dai famously became a composer for Higurashi: When They Cry after he sent Ryukishi07 an email in which he praised the game but complained that the royalty-free music he’d been using as BGM was too noisy. In an attempt to blow him off, Ryukishi07 replied with “Well, let’s see the soundtrack you’d make,” but Dai actually responded by sending some of his original music, which the members of 7th Expansion loved (source). If the beloved OSTs of Umineko and Higurashi are anything to go by, Silent Hill f’s music will hit the spot for horror fans.
Silent Hill f is currently in development for the PC (Steam/Epic Games Store), PS5 and Xbox Series X|S
