Polish game studio Game Factory recently announced that it will delay its much-awaited JDM: Japanese Drift Master to May 21 – almost two months later than its previously planned March 26 release date. This extra time will allow the developers to “fine-tune the final details and provide the best possible experience for everyone.”
While JDM: Japanese Drift Master is being developed in Poland, the game is set in the fictional Japanese prefecture of Guntama, Honshu. Players will be able to race over 30 customizable licensed vehicles from famous brands like Mazda, Subaru, Honda, and Nissan through over 250km of roads and areas based on real locations. To add to the realism, Guntama will have its own day-night cycle, weather system, and street traffic.

What makes JDM: Japanese Drift Master stand out from other racing games is that its narrative draws heavily from the famous racing manga Initial D. As a foreigner looking to make it in the Japanese drifting world, you must compete in a series of street races against other drivers to become the best hashiriya (the Japanese term for “streer racer”). The main campaign will consist of over 40 narrative-driven events, along with various side missions (including drift, grip, and drag races) and extra content.
Of course, no Initial D-inspired piece of media would be complete without Eurobeat music and an anime opening – both of which JDM: Japanese Drift Master already has. The game’s story will also be told through manga pages, which are drawn by in-house manga artists and will be available to read afterward through your in-game smartphone.
With two more months before the updated release date, Game Factory plans to showcase more updates and sneak peeks of JDM: Japanese Drift Master. The official Japanese Drift Master YouTube channel features a constant stream of updates from the developers, so you can be sure any developments will be posted there.
JDM: Japanese Drift Master is scheduled to be released for PC (Steam/GOG/Epic Games Store) on May 21.
