Monster Hunter Wilds takes the top three spots in Japan’s Xbox best seller ranking

Monster Hunter Wilds is dominating Xbox best seller charts in Japan, taking up the top three spots.

Despite not being as popular as the local PlayStation 5 version, Monster Hunter Wilds on Xbox Series X|S has been dominating Japan’s Xbox Games Catalog. All three versions of the game are currently ranked as top bestsellers, followed by the 2D fighting game Phantom Breaker Omnia and the tactical RPG Unicorn Overlord (both of which are developed by local Japanese game studios).

Japan's Xbox best seller ranking

What’s interesting is how the different versions of Monster Hunter Wilds rank against each other. The standard edition takes the top spot (likely due to its cheaper price at 9,900 JPY (roughly $66.63 USD), but the more expensive Premium Deluxe Edition priced at 13,900 JPY ($93.58 USD) beats out the Deluxe Edition which costs 11,900 JPY ($80.11 USD) for second place. Perhaps considering that the Premium Deluxe Edition comes with a lot of cosmetics, an exclusive Hunter Profile Set, and one extra background music track compared to the Deluxe Edition, players were more willing to shell out the extra 2,000 JPY ($13.46 USD).

Monster Hunter Wilds isn’t just increasing sales for itself but may also be the cause for certain games not making as much revenue. Coincidentally, sales for cheese naan in Japan have also seen a massive boom following Monster Hunter Wilds’ release.

Monster Hunter Wilds is out now on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam).
