As Monster Hunter games often feature creatures that are more than twice your size, they tend to fill most of your screen. Monster Hunter Wilds is no exception. While the game likes to keep things close to your hunter, there is a way to adjust the field of view to keep both you and your quarry in frame.

From the Start menu, find the “System” tab and choose “Options.” Head over to the “Camera” menu and you’ll find the “Camera Distance: Zoom” and “Camera Distance: Pan” sliders.

“Camera Distance: Zoom” is set to “4” by default, which makes the game focus a bit too much on your hunter. Setting the value to “10” will make it harder to admire the hard work you put into your hunter, but it will increase your field of view and make it easy to keep track of a monster’s movements.

Increasing “Camera Distance: Pan” is more of a personal preference option as it moves the camera more to the right of your hunter – giving the game a more “over the shoulder” feel. Fans of ranged weapons like the Light Bowgun, Heavy Bowgun, and Bow might prefer setting their “Camera Distance: Pan” value higher to increase the screen real estate available for aiming without your hunter blocking the way.

Apart from “Camera Distance: Zoom” and “Camera Distance: Pan”, the Camera menu also has several options that you can use to tailor your hunting experience. Turning down “Camera Shake” and “Ambient Camera Sway” (which are set to the maximum value of “5” by default) will make the game easier to play for those who suffer from motion sickness. Other options, such as “Focus Camera”, “Camera Terrain Adjustment”, and “Auto-centering: Normal” allow you to adjust the strength of the lock-on and auto-correction values of the camera.

Monster Hunter Wilds has a lot of options that allow you to customize the game, letting you experience your adventure in a way that suits your needs. Be sure to take your time and go through all the available options (including the monster-specific Arachnophobia Assistance mode). With enough tinkering, you’ll find something that works for you.
Monster Hunter Wilds is out now on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam).
