Wizards of the Coast have released more information about their Magic: The Gathering Final Fantasy collaboration, due to be released on June 13. As well as a reveal of some of the cards, they have also confirmed that Yoshitaka Amano is involved in the project.

Although the set will feature over 100 legendary creature cards from throughout the entire Final Fantasy franchise, the Commander decks will focus on Final Fantasy VI, VII, X and XIV. A variety of double-faced and borderless cards will be included. Cards will feature summons from the series (like Final Fantasy X’s version of Shiva and Final Fantasy VIII’s highly destructive Jumbo Cactuar), as well as whimsical characters like Sazh’s Chocobo chick (Final Fantasy XIII) and the moogle Stiltzkin (Final Fantasy IX).

Within the Magic: The Gathering set, special borderless Final Fantasy artist cards will prominently feature existing artwork from iconic Final Fantasy series artists. So far, Ancient Copper Dragon from Final Fantasy I, with artwork by Yoshitaka Amano, and Yuriko, the Tiger’s Shadow, featuring Tetsuya Nomura’s Yuffie character art from Final Fantasy VII, have been revealed. Yoshitaka Amano has previously done artwork for Magic: The Gathering, illustrating the Liliana, Dreadhorde General card. At the time of writing, it is not known how many cards in the Final Fantasy set will feature his work.
Wizards of the Coast’s official First Look video gives more examples and information on specific cards and card types that will be in the collaboration, as does the official website.
