Monster Hunter Wilds’ new boss reveal is so disturbing that people are realizing why Arachnophobia Assistance mode is a must

Monster Hunter Wilds is about to enter the second round of its Open Beta Test 2, scheduled to last from February 13 to 17, before releasing in full on February 28. The game’s new Arachnophobia Assistance feature has again come to players’ attention, this time because of a particularly nightmarish beast reveal from Capcom.

The creature that is giving players the heebie-jeebies this time is Nerscylla. First introduced back in Monster Hunter 4, Nerscylla is a web-spinning Temnoceran class monster that resembles a giant spider. Recent clips from game news sites and users with early access to the full game have revealed that while fighting the giant spider in Monster Hunter Wilds, it will spawn hundreds of little baby spiders that will chase your hapless hunter all over the battlefield.

As we explained in our previous coverage, Arachnophobia Assistance turns most of Monster Hunter Wilds’ smaller insect and arachnoid creatures into slimy blobs (it apparently has no effect on bigger monsters like Nerscylla and Lala Barina though). This has got people both excited and scared as to what affect Arachnophobia Assistance will have on the Nerscylla babies.

While some players have found being smothered by huge blobs of slime to be hot and slime-fetish triggering, others have found the opposite. For some, Monster Hunter Wilds’ realistic slime is grossing them out or is just plain creepier than insects.

Many users struggled to express exactly how Monster Hunter Wilds’ slimy alternatives made them feel, “The bugs are so realistic that they are gross even when turned into slime, but it’s kind of so gross it’s cute (I have no idea what I’m trying to say).” Meanwhile, others hope that slime blob babies will make Nerscylla easier for them to beat without having to hide behind a cushion.
