Nintendo is “taking risks” to make sure Nintendo Switch 2 supply is sufficient

Unveiled with the sudden drop of a teaser trailer two weeks ago, the Nintendo Switch 2 is set to come out in 2025. The new console has got gamers and investors alike excited, with Nintendo’s stock prices continuing to rise due to high expectations. Amidst concerns about supply and demand, Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa recently revealed that the company is “taking risks” to produce as many Switch 2s as possible for launch.

This information was revealed in Nintendo’s latest Q&A on February 4, where unsurprisingly, many of the shareholders’ questions focused on the Switch 2. Considering that Nintendo had difficulties meeting the soaring demand for the original Switch when it launched in 2017, the questioner expressed concerns that Nintendo’s plan to produce enough Switch 2s to meet predicted initial demands may fall short.

In response, Furukawa explains that “At the moment, we are proceeding with production, taking risks to meet the biggest demand possible.” However, he adds that “Like with the Nintendo Switch, we do not think it will be easy to rapidly increase production capacity, but we are making preparations based on our experience [with the original Switch] so that we can respond as quickly as possible [to increases in demand].”

To predict Switch 2 demand, Nintendo will take into account the response to their April 2 Nintendo Direct (which will reveal more info about the console) and feedback from the hands-on Nintendo Switch 2 Experience events that will be taking place around the world. Nintendo will release a detailed production plan for its new console when the full-year financial results come out in early May.

Last July, Furukawa reassured shareholders that the semiconductor shortage which impacted the original Switch’s production has been resolved, and that material shortages are not expected to affect the Switch 2
