Street Fighter 6’s Mai Update improves Match Replays, adds Match Restore feature to Custom Room, and new Local Tournament Mode Settings

Capcom is pulling out all the stops with Street Fighter 6’s Mai Shiranui update. Not only is it adding the Fatal Fury/ King of Fighters femme fatale and adjusting the World Tour Master system, but Match Replays will also be getting some welcome improvements alongside a new Match Restore feature in the Custom Room mode and Local Tournament Mode Settings.

Let’s start with Match Replays. After finishing a Ranked or Casual match, a new “Watch Replay” option will be available on the Match Result screen. Japanese Street Fighter 6 pro players like Dhalsim main Torimeshi and Bison aficionado Nemo have expressed their approval of the Watch Replay feature, as it allows you to circumvent having to open a slew of menus just to rewatch your most previous match.

You will also be able to pause and use the menu controls when watching replays during the start of a round or after a win or draw has been decided. The interface of the pause menu has also been improved; making it easier to access options like Change Playback Round, which allows you to choose which round of the match to replay.

The Mai update will also make improvements to ongoing matches, as the Match Restore feature added to Custom Rooms will allow players to resume matches that were interrupted due to acceptable problems (i.e. game servers temporarily shutting down). Matches that resume will restart the round when the interruption occurred, giving both players an equal chance at a rematch. Take note that Match Restore only works on one-on-one matches.

The new Local Tournament Mode Settings feature in the Options menu caters towards small tournaments. This allows tournament hosts to tinker with settings like Motion Blue, Input Delay Reduction, and the number and run time of each round per match. It also lets you mess with less important things like Disallow Cutscene Skip, which prevents players from skipping those startup animations meant to hype the crowd.

Mai Shiranui arrives on February 5 in Street Fighter 6, which is available for PC (Steam), PS4/PS5, and Xbox Series X|S
