People are already poking fun at Nintendo Switch 2’s literal “stick drift” in announcement video

Not one day after the official unveiling of the Nintendo Switch 2 and people are already poking fun at the first-look trailer. Though the trailer’s CGI did a great job of showcasing the Switch 2’s features, many were drawn to the animation of the two new Joy-Cons racing each other across a black background:

For context, many Nintendo Switch Joy-Cons are infamous for having stick drift – an issue where a controller’s analog sticks detect movement even when they aren’t being used. Stick drift is often caused by dust accumulation, factory defects, or simple wear and tear.

People were quick to notice that the new Joy-Cons were literally drifting in the first-look trailer and pointed this fact out humorously; posting memes that include everything from the Mario Kart game running on the console to music from the street racing manga and anime series Initial D. Some took the video a little too literally and assumed that Nintendo created a revolutionary new feature that allows the new Joy-Cons to be raced around like toy cars.

While many are still understandably upset with the current Nintendo Switch’s Joy-Con stick drift problems, this hasn’t stopped them from making jokes about the Switch 2’s Joy-Cons drifting and hoping that the new controllers won’t have the same problems as their predecessors. A Nintendo Direct airing on April 2, 20025 will offer a closer look at the Nintendo Switch 2 and whether these new Joy-Cons will drift or not.
