NetEase deletes website of Visions of Mana developer Ouka Studios
As spotted by Bloomberg reporter Takashi Mochizuki, NetEase Games seems to have shut down the official website of Ouka Studios, the developer of Square Enix’s Visions of Mana.
Ouka Studios is a “hybrid” game studio with offices in both China and Japan. It was founded in 2020 and headed by former Bandai Namco Studios’ veteran Tetsuya Akatsuka. However, the creator seems to have recently deleted Ouka Studios from his LinkedIn profile entirely. In addition, earlier this month, Ryosuke Yoshida, the director of the studio’s only title Visions of Mana, announced that he would be leaving Ouka Studios and joining Square Enix.
Although there have been no official announcements yet about the fate of the NetEase-owned game studio, Bloomberg reported earlier this year that Tencent and NetEase are considering withdrawing some of their investments in Japanese developers. At the time, insiders said that NetEase had cut most jobs at Ouka Studios and intended to close it, so we may be seeing the results now.
