You can cook and eat monsters Dungeon Meshi-style in this upcoming survival RPG
Tokyo-based indie developer Northern Studio has officially announced Abyss Ring. The upcoming title is scheduled to launch in Spring 2025 for the PC (Steam).
Abyss Ring is a survival roguelike RPG in which you explore a perilous randomly generated dungeon, aiming for its 100th floor. Judging from the trailer, gameplay revolves around first-person action. But aside from typical dungeon crawling, Abyss Ring promises a culinary adventure too, as cooking and eating the monsters you come across is a core aspect of the game.
Your character has a hunger level, and must keep eating in order to survive. To satisfy hunger, you need to cook and eat the edible monsters you defeat, using other ingredients and seasonings you find during your adventures to make various dishes. Abyss Ring will come with over 100 kinds of dishes (such as Dragon Steak and Roasted Phoenix), which will have various effects on your character. You can discover new dishes by trying out different combinations of ingredients, or by collecting recipes in the dungeon.
Abyss Ring is a roguelike, so dying will send you straight back to Level 1, but delving into the deeper parts of the dungeon will allow you to earn skill points. These can be used to acquire magic and passive skills. The game will also include over 200 types of equipment, including weapons and artifacts that can boost your cooking and combat skills.
Abyss Ring is scheduled to be released for the PC (Steam) in Spring 2025. A playable demo will be available at Tokyo Game Dungeon 7, held on February 16, 2025.
