Onimusha is finally returning in 2026 with a new sword action game set in feudal Japan

Capcom just dropped a new trailer for Onimusha: Way of the Sword at The Game Awards 2024. It will be coming to PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC (Steam) in 2026.

The hack-and-slash Onimusha series is mainly based in Japan’s Sengoku Period and combines historical figures with supernatural elements. Back in 2018, a reworking of the first game, 2001’s PS2 cult classic Onimusha: Warlords HD Remaster, was released on modern platforms. Onimusha: Way of the Sword will be the first full-fledged brand new title in the series since Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams in 2006.

The first trailer for Onimusha: Way of the Sword showcases dramatic sword fights against demons and possessed soldiers. Like previous Onimusha titles, the game will have a brand-new protagonist but will move the action forward to the Edo period. With its new graphics and modern gameplay, Onimusha: Way of the Sword is shaping up to be a welcome reboot of the classic series.

Onimusha: Way of the Sword is scheduled to be released on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC (Steam) in 2026.
