Infinity Nikki developer’s mobile hit Love and Deepspace makes chart-topping profits in Japan

A recent report by Sensor Tower has revealed the top interactive story mobile games in Japan for January to September 2024, in terms of downloads and revenue. Infold Games’ Love and Deepspace was both the most downloaded and highest grossing game in this category by a longshot.

For the uninitiated, Love and Deepspace is a dating sim aimed at a female audience, featuring a combination of romantic interactions with attractive male characters and action game-style combat against monsters (more about this heady mix here). It was developed by the Singapore-based Infold Games, an internationally focused subsidiary of China’s Papergames. Along with the recently released Infinity Nikki, Love and Deepspace has been a huge success for the company. Since its launch on January 18, it has performed well globally.

In Japan, Love and Deepspace racked up over 70,000 downloads between January 18 and September 2024. This put it ahead of Japanese boy band tie-in game Strawberry Prince With! (released in March). From a global perspective, Japan had the third highest download numbers for Love and Deepspace after China and the US.

It is in terms of revenue that Love and Deepspace really soared above its competitors. In Sensor Tower’s interactive story category for mobile games, Love and Deepspace was the top grossing title by far, amassing just under $30 million USD between January and September. In contrast, the game in second place, Promise of Wizard (Mahoutsukai no Yakusoku) earned just over $10 million.

Perhaps unsurprisingly given its target audience, Sensor Tower reported that over 65% of Japan’s Love and Deepspace players were female, with 36% of players in the 25 to 34 age range.

Love and Deepspace has also held a bunch of offline promo events around the world in 2024 in countries including China, Japan, the US and France. With new story branches added to the title each month, it seems that Infold Games will continue to keep the game fresh with extra content next year.

The base version of Love and Deepspace is free to play on iOS and Android (with in-app purchases).
