Yuji Horii encourages players to lend their copies of Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D to children and people who’ve never played the series
In response to Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake selling over 2 million copies worldwide, series creator Yuji Horii took to X today to encourage players to share their games. Namely, he asked those who have already completed Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake to lend their copy to someone else so that they can enjoy the epic adventure of the hero of Aliahan too.
Yuji Horii’s wholesome, generous and unselfish post garnered lots of praise from fellow X users and an outpouring of nostalgia. The top responder commented that it is rare to see people talking about lending games these days, and that Horii’s comment gave them a warm, nostalgic feeling. One user reports their delight that Catfly (Catula in the English version) has become their 5-year-old’s favorite word thanks to Dragon Quest. Another reflects that their 8-year-old son is now struggling to beat bosses on the Switch remake version that they themselves had difficulty with on the Super Famicom. Giving your copy of Dragon Quest III’s remake to a kid and teaching them how to play sounds like a wonderful way to build a bond that neither of you will ever forget.
Dragon Quest III Remake has been an outstanding success, especially in Japan. From its announcement in June right up until release day, Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake was consistently among Japan’s top 3 most preordered video games. Upon its release in November, it became Square Enix’s third best performing title of all time on Steam. Physical versions also flew off shelves. In fact, the Switch physical version in particular sold like hotcakes and has since become difficult to buy new, even from major retailers like Amazon.jp. Kindly lending your copy to a (trustworthy) friend seems like a nice gesture.
Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake is out now on PC (Steam /Microsoft Store), Nintendo Switch, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
