Pokémon Red and Green are no longer the top selling Pokémon games in Japan
On November 18, Nintendo revealed that the top selling Pokémon game generation in Japan has changed for the first time in 28 years. Up until recently, the very first Pokémon game set – 1996’s Pokémon Red and Green (later released as Pokémon Red and Blue internationally) had remained the best-selling in the monster catching series.
However, as reported by Gamebiz, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet overtook the record this year, shifting over 8.3 million units in Japan alone as of November 18, which is the 2-year anniversary of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet’s release. To coincide with the anniversary, Nintendo revealed that they will soon be holding a limited time Tera Raid Battle event featuring the legendary Pokémon Shiny Rayquaza.
These are not the only numbers the Pokémon series has been smashing recently. Just last week, Pokémon-related videos on YouTube topped 360 billion views.
Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet are available now on Nintendo Switch.
