Guilty Gear Strive’s age rating raised in Japan for unspecified reasons

Arc System Works has announced that the age rating for Guilty Gear -Strive- ’s PS versions will be changed from CERO B to CERO C based on the game’s content.

CERO (Computer Entertainment Rating Organization) is Japan’s age rating system for console games. It includes 5 different age classifications – CERO A (all ages), B (12+), C (15+), D (17+) and Z (18+). As of November 20, the PS4 and PS5 versions of Guilty Gear Strive will move up a category, becoming 15+. The announcement on Arc System Works’s official website does not explain the reason behind the revision.

The CERO C classification is more specific than CERO B, targeting games that contain significant violence and horror elements, as well as antisocial, sexual and macabre expressions.

Guilty Gear Strive is rated 12+ in Europe, and it has an ESRB T (Teen) rating in the US for blood, language, mild suggestive themes and violence. The game is scheduled to release for the Nintendo Switch on January 23 next year, and this version will also be rated CERO C in Japan.
