Pokémon videos top 360 billion views, according to YouTube

YouTube videos related to Pokémon have surpassed 360 billion views worldwide, according to a post made today on YouTube’s Official Japanese language blog.

These 360 billion views not only include videos from The Pokémon Company’s 25 official YouTube channels, but also an extensive range of unofficial creator content spanning everything from game playthroughs, Pokémon-themed cake vids, and even Pokémon Professor roleplay ASMR (not as kinky as it sounds…).

This is testament to the enduring global popularity of the Japanese franchise, which kicked off with the Japan-only release of Pocket Monsters Red and Green back in 1996, with the trading card game and anime following not long after. Since then, Pokémon has become a cultural phenomenon and a household name worldwide.

The blog post concluded that over the years, the Pokémon community on YouTube has grown into a unique place where Pokémon fans can create and share their own interpretations and observations on everything Pokémon related. Official videos play into this too, like the Pokédance video that was published for this year’s Pokémon day (February 27), which inspired creators to make their own content featuring it.

Recently, The Pokémon Company and YouTube teamed up to offer special effects for YouTube Shorts, based on animations from the new mobile game Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket, which launched on October 30.
