SNK’s The King of Fighters 98 is now part of a high-tech health monitoring machine

2024 is the 30th anniversary of SNK’s fighting game series The King of Fighters. As part of the anniversary celebrations, measuring device manufacturer Tanita has teamed up with SNK to create, of all things, a series of high-tech health monitoring devices, one of which even lets you play The King of Fighters ‘98

The range includes a pedometer, and thermo-hygrometer (which measures both room temperature and humidity). But the big-ticket item is the body composition analyzer. Designed for professional use, the device not only performs a detailed analysis of body fat and muscle mass for each part of the body, but also allows the user to battle it out in The King of Fighters ‘98. From Tanita’s product presentation below, it seems that you simply hook up a controller to the machine, and you can also play a few rounds against other players.

The body composition analyzer can also store up to a million measurements that can be viewed on its LCD screen. This pro-level device does not come cheap though, as it will set you back 2 million yen (about $13k).

It is also Tanita’s 80th anniversary this year, so the collaboration with SNK is a dual celebration. While Tanita is well-known in Japan as a measuring device manufacturer, in recent years the company has collaborated with various video games, even creating a Twin Stick for Sega’s Virtual On: Cyber Troopers series.
