Sega is working on a new Virtua Fighter game, reveals executive

Good news for fighting game fans- it has just been revealed that Sega is currently developing a new Virtua Fighter game.

Virtua Fighter is a groundbreaking series that first brought fighting games into 3D back in 1993. In recent years, Sega has released reworkings of previous titles, like the Japan-only Virtua Fighter 3tb Online and Virtua Fighter esports. However, the last proper full-fledged game in the series was Virtua Fighter 5, which initially came out back in 2006.

The news about a new Virtua Fighter title was disclosed in a Video Game Chronicle interview with Sega Executive Vice President Justin Scarpone, published on November 6. Discussing the other classic Sega franchises that are being revived, like the upcoming open world MMO Crazy Taxi game and the Shinobi movie, Scarpone revealed that “we have another Virtua Fighter being developed.”

Scarpone did not give any details about the new Virtua Fighter game. At the time of writing, it is unclear whether it will be a brand-new numbered title or another remake. However, as it was mentioned in the same context as Jet Set Radio and Crazy Taxi, two other Sega legacy IPs that are getting brand new games, we could be getting Virtua Fighter 6.
