Chrotopia sends you on a Undertale-style journey into a mysterious fantasy world
Pixel Game Maker Series Chrotopia, an indie action-adventure game created by solo Japanese developer Kosuke Miyauchi and published by Gotcha Gotcha Games, has just been released for the Nintendo Switch. The game follows a young girl named Kuro as she goes on an adventure to find her missing sister. It takes place in the real world and a mysterious fantasy world, where Kuro interacts with friendly NPCs and fights hostile wizards, soldiers, and other fantasy-based creatures. Chrotopia is playable in English and Japanese.
Chrotopia is part of the Pixel Game Maker Series – a collection of games made using the Pixel Game Maker MV software developed by Gotcha Gotcha Games (the same company that developed the RPG Maker series of games and the upcoming Action Game Maker). Like its bold black and white visuals, Chrotopia’s combat is simple- featuring normal and special attacks, as well as jumping to avoid enemy counters. There are also a few puzzles in the game, but the focus is on Chrotopia’s combat and other interactive elements.
Apart from combat, players will be able to explore a town and interact with its denizens. If enough time is spent with an NPC, Kuro will be able to engage in more activities such as asking them out on picnics or getting invited to their homes for a playdate (totally not creepy at all). By fighting enemies and interacting with NPCs, Kuro will hopefully be able to reunite with her sister and unravel the mystery behind the fantasy world she visits.
Pixel Game Maker Series Chrotopia is out now on Nintendo Switch. It is available at a 10% discount until November 1,
