Fate/Grand Order’s secret to maintaining over 1 million monthly users even 9 years after launch? An unusually high retention rate, according to study

As it nears its ninth anniversary, popular mobile game Fate/Grand Order has remained among Japan’s top 10  highest earning mobile games since it first released in 2015. According to data provided by SensorTower, most of Fate/Grand Order’s monthly average users come from Japan, followed by China, America, and South Korea.

SensorTower attributes Fate/Grand Order’s 1 million+ monthly average Japanese users to the game’s high retention rate. Over 30% of users are reported to continue playing on their 30th day, and 25% on their 60th and 90th days. While other popular mobile games like Monster Stike, Puzzle & Dragons, and Mushroom Legend: The Hero and the Magic Lamp have higher player counts, Fate/Grand Order prides itself with how it consistently keeps players coming back.

Going deeper into the engagement summary reveals that the ratio of male to female Fate/Grand Order users is 6:4, while most users are 25-34 years old. A good 20% of users are aged 18-24, as are those who are 35-44 years old. That’s a lot of young and mature adults playing Fate/Grand Order. If developer Lasengle’s track record is any indication, the game could very well continue delighting players for years to come.
