Masahiro Sakurai on Creating Games series to finish with special final episode next week

Kirby and Super Smash Bros. Creator Masahiro Sakurai has announced that he will be finishing his YouTube series “Masahiro Sakurai on Creating Games” next week. The news generated an outpouring of thanks on X from both Japanese and English-speaking users who have found the videos helpful and entertaining.

Masahiro Sakurai first started the YouTube channel “Masahiro Sakurai on Creating Games” in August 2022, with the aim of “Making the future of video games just a little bit more fun.” Since then, he has posted over 250 videos full of advice on every aspect of video game design and development. With Sakurai’s cheerful presentation style and clear, informative cartoon illustrations, each video explained diverse topics in an easy to understand way. The episodes are available in both Japanese and English. They have been praised for their accessibility and even used in game development lectures

The final regular episode, which was uploaded on October 15, is called Up is Down and Down is Up– in which Sakurai discusses the importance of having equal and cooperative relationships between people in a company- regardless of their position. He announced that one more final special episode (due to air next week) is planned for the channel.

Although the planned series is coming to an end, rest assured that the vast back catalogue of episodes covering everything from game conceptualization, UI, team management, audio, graphics and marketing, will still be available on the YouTube channel
