How to deal with Silent Hill 2 remake’s Lying Figures
Apart from the on-edge Angela Orosco in the Toluca Graveyard, the first things to welcome James Sunderland as he enters Silent Hill are the malformed Lying Figures. With an upper torso shaped like a body bag and legs that often sport high heels, Lying Figures can be found roaming the streets and inside the buildings of Silent Hill. Considering you’ll be fighting plenty of these monsters in the Silent Hill 2 remake, it would be good to know their attack patterns and behaviors.
Lying Figures tend to run and spit at you
Lying Figures have two main methods of attack: a short-range tackle and a mid-range spit that catches players off-guard. While both attacks can be avoided by dodging at the right time, their timings differ.
You will know a Lying Figure is about to tackle you when it begins running. The Lying Figure will sprint briefly before tackling in a set direction. As this is the faster of the Lying Figure’s moves, you need to be on-point with your dodges to avoid getting hit. Lying Figures cannot be stunned at a certain point when performing their tackle attack, so you should be wary when spamming your melee attacks.
The Lying Figure’s mid-range spit attack can cover a good area, making it troublesome to deal with indoors. Thankfully, it is extremely telegraphed by the Lying Figure lurching forward (as if to hold its stomach). This is when you should immediately sidestep to the left or right, as the following projectile can hit you if you jump back and aren’t far enough from the Lying Figure.
As long as you watch out for the Lying Figure’s running and lurching animations and dodge them accordingly, you are free to attack it as much as possible. Gunfire kills these creatures quickly, but the resulting noise can attract more monsters to your area. Melee combat takes a bit longer, but you’ll have more chances of a reprieve after a scuffle.
Crawling Lying Figures are just as deadly as upright ones
Take note that Lying Figures can still attack while they are knocked down. Some Lying Figures spawn on the ground and prefer crawling to standing. This makes them extremely fast and hard to hit, so you should make sure these things are dead before moving on. A couple of quick stomps and melee attacks on a downed Lying Figure may take more time but it’s better than coming back and seeing them ready for round two.
Lying Figures aren’t that scary alone but can be dangerous in numbers and amongst other monsters. Take out the enemies blocking your way (they don’t drop experience or items anyway) and try to move on to avoid wasting precious ammunition and resources.
