Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom’s beds are a surprisingly OP item that you can make use of early in the game
Since The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom launched for the Switch on September 26, players have quickly discovered how useful beds are in the game. Far from just being a comfy place for Zelda to get some much-needed shuteye, the humble Old Bed has serious puzzle-solving possibilities. In fact, some players are so besotted with this GOATed piece of furniture that they are making it their Nintendo Online icon.
Be warned that this article contains some mild puzzle spoilers for The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom.

The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom is the first game in the series to actually feature Zelda as the main character. With the roles reversed, the princess must set off on a quest to save Link and the kingdom of Hyrule, using her trusty Tri-Rod. The Tri-Rod allows players to create “echoes”- copies of items or monsters that they have learned, and plonk them down anywhere on screen (up to three echos can be active at a time). As the developers of Echoes of Wisdom recently explained, this echo mechanic gives players a lot of freedom as to how they solve puzzles and move through the game.
The Old Bed is an echo that Zelda can learn early on in the game, and it has become a favorite of players due to all the crazy ways in which it can be utilized.
Although its textbook function is as a rest item- allowing Zelda to recover her strength- the game is quick to show the player that the bed is not subject to the normal laws of gravity. Beds can be casually stacked partially on top of each other to create makeshift staircases. They also make for good bridges as they float on water- allowing the player to traverse the environment with ease. Both the game and Nintendo’s official social media posts encourage you to use the Old Bed in these unorthodox ways- but there’s more.
Some players have discovered that the Bed can take you to even greater heights (and not just in your dreams). One Reddit user demonstrated a badass Old Bed and Tornando combo that got them into places that shouldn’t be reachable yet (warning: the video contains spoilers). The trick is to stack two Old Beds on top of each other, quickly jump on the top bed and immediately echo a Tornando monster. The Tornando’s blast of air will send both Zelda and the top bed hover upwards. A well-timed echo of Tornando again whilst on the levitating bed can make Zelda soar even higher. This allows her to reach some very high places on her magic flying bed.

Naturally, the Old Bed can also prove useful for healing up Zelda. However, the fact that Echoes of Wisdom’s echoes can be activated practically everywhere expands the possibilities for getting 40 winks and can result in some surreal happenings. It’s even possible to set up a bed barricaded with rocks and get Zelda to sleep even in the middle of a boss battle, as the X user below reported. Zelda can also summon the Old Bed for a snooze in extreme environments or even drop one on the head of a boss enemy.
Even more bizarrely, in Nintendo Switch Online’s Missions and Rewards, the Old Bed is available as an element for users to create custom icons- however, for some reason, it is amusingly categorized as a character.
With its stability and availability early on in the game, the Old Bed is already proving a invaluable tool for players. Why not try it out yourself and see if you can discover even more creative Old Bed combos?
