Capcom wins big at Japan Game Awards 2024, netting prizes for Street Fighter 6, Dragon’s Dogma 2 and Monster Hunter Wilds
In a recent press release, Capcom announced that their games had won a total of four prizes at the latest Japan Game Awards, held during Tokyo Game Show 2024.
Street Fighter 6 won both an Award for Excellence as well as a Special Award. The latter award was given in recognition of the game’s efforts to enhance audio accessibility to provide a gameplay experience that can be enjoyed by visually impaired players.
Dragon’s Dogma 2 also received one of the eleven Awards for Excellence that were presented at the event. The expansive RPG was selected for improving upon its predecessor by providing a realistic and vast open world, and for the distinct AI of its “Pawns”- non-playable party members.
Monster Hunter Wilds won a Future Division Award. Ten of these awards were given to much-anticipated upcoming games presented at Tokyo Game Show 2024 between September 26 and 29, based on votes from the general public.
The Japan Game Awards 2024 also saw the original PlayStation (which celebrates its 30th anniversary this December) receive the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Award for its contribution to the development of the video game industry. The top awarded game was Nintendo’s The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, which took home three prizes including the Grand Award.
