Nintendo and The Pokémon Company file lawsuit against PocketPair’s Palworld
Nintendo have just announced that they and The Pokémon Company have filed a lawsuit against PocketPair, the developer of Palworld. The patent infringement lawsuit was filed on September 18, 2024.
According to Nintendo’s news release, the lawsuit claims that Palworld infringes upon several patent rights, Nintendo and The Pokémon Company will be seeking an injunction against this infringement, as well as compensation for damages.
Even since Palworld was released in Early Access in January this year, users have voiced concerns about similarities to the Pokémon series, with arguments heating up on social media as to whether the designs of certain Pals plagiarize those of Pokémon. Although the Pals’ designs apparently did not cause any issues, it seems that Nintendo and The Pokémon Company are now taking legal action about technology used in the game Palworld infringing on their patents.
