Final Fantasy VII Remake: Co-director hints at when we can expect to learn more about the trilogy’s final part

In a recent interview with Famitsu about the multiplayer spin-off game Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis, Motomu Toriyama hinted at when we can expect to learn more about the final part of the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy

As director of Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis and co-director on the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy, Toriyama seems to be completely absorbed in Final Fantasy VII’s world and characters. Speaking to Famitsu, he explains that, “I’m also working on the Final Fantasy VII Remake Project’s final part, so I sometimes feel a bit confused. If someone says “Highwind,” I think “Which one?” Cid’s airship the Highwind appears in Ever Crisis and was briefly controllable in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth too. In the final part of the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy, the airship is set to play an even greater role as the player will finally be able to fly freely around the world map.

In his comments about Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis’s 2nd anniversary in September 2025, Toriyama reveals that “By then, we may have started to release information about the last part of the FFVII Remake Project, so I hope that players will get excited about that with us.” This suggests that by September 2025, we may have already received concrete information about the last game in the trilogy, including its title, platform, trailers and even a release date.

Even now, snippets of information about the much-anticipated final part of Final Fantasy VII Remake are starting to trickle out – including the fact that it will contain a revamped version of Rebirth’s popular Queen’s Blood card game. But just looking at the original Final Fantasy VII, we can assume that we’ll get a nicely fleshed-out snowboarding minigame, and visit a number of new locations including Rocket Town, Mideel and perhaps Wutai. With both the hunt for Planet-saving Materia and encounters with Shinra and Sephiroth heating up, we will get to enjoy many more dramatic scenes before the final battle.

At Indonesia Anime Con in June, Toriyama teased that the ending of the Final Fantasy VII Remake Trilogy will surpass that of the original: “We would like to bring you a moving and impressive ending which will answer all the mysteries in Rebirth and exceeds the original game”
