Danganronpa devs and Akatsuki Games’ upcoming Tribe Nine delivers on its promise of a “death game,” closed beta results show 

Akatsuki Games recently released a report of the global closed beta test held for their upcoming “extreme” ARPG Tribe Nine. Appropriately titled the “Deadly Playtest,” the beta seems to have overwhelmed players, 94% of whom were wiped out by the game’s post-Chapter 1 boss. 

Tribe Nine is a free-to-play action RPG that blends 2D and 3D graphics. The game is set in a futuristic Neo Tokyo ruled by deadly games. A varied cast of teenaged characters engage in life-or-death battles in hopes of reclaiming their stolen dreams and freedom. If this sounds familiar, it’s because Tribe Nine is being co-developed by Too Kyoo Games, the studio led by Danganronpa creator Kazutaka Kodaka.  

The results of Tribe Nine’s closed beta provide data on players’ overall satisfaction, as well statistics on the most used characters and how far players were able to progress in the game. According to the report, players were “wiped out” a total of 5,589 times during the playtest. 76% of players were able to beat the Chapter 0 boss, while only 27% managed to get passed Chapter 1’s boss. Moreover, the Death Penalty boss that appears after clearing Chapter 1 wiped out a whopping 94% of players. 

It is worth mentioning that while Tribe Nine’s difficulty is definitely a big factor behind these results, the overall volume of the game is quite impressive too, so it’s safe to assume that some players were simply unable to progress far enough within the time constraints of the beta. 

As for how people liked their death game experience, Tribe Nine was rated 8 on a scale of 1 to 10 by a majority of players, and 85.6% of the total grades were above 6. The most praised aspects of the game were the designs and expressiveness of the character models, the storyline and dynamic battles. On the other hand, playtesters pointed out things like poor pacing, heaviness of battles and static camera movement as issues.

The conclusion of Akatsuki Games’ report gives a detailed analysis of the game’s biggest issues and talks about future improvements, so if you didn’t like something in the beta – there’s a big chance of it being addressed in the future. 

Tribe Nine is scheduled to be released for the PC (Steam) and iOS/Android.
