Elden Ring mod replaces Shadow of the Erdtree’s final bosses with Patches and Hidetaka Miyazaki
FromSoftware’s Soulsborne games are generally dark and serious, but thanks to fan-made PC mods, things can become a little funnier. Nexus Mods user MRRCrychicQing created an Elden Ring mod that replaces Shadow of the Erdtree’s final campaign bosses, Radahn and Miquella, with models of Patches the Untethered and the game’s director Hidetaka Miyazaki. MRRCrychicQing included references to multiple FromSoftware games that make the Promised Consort Radahn boss fight take on a much more comical tone.
The first part of the boss fight is made funnier thanks to the swapping of Radahn’s model with that of a large Patches. This big version of the NPC holds two Moonlight Greatswords – a weapon found in multiple FromSoftware games. Should the swords fail to eliminate players, MRRCrychicQing also replaced the falling rocks in Radahn’s Gravity Meteor attack with Basilisks found in both Elden Ring and the Dark Souls games.
But, the real kicker is when Patches enters his second phase. After dropping to 60% health, Patches falls to his knees and is joined by none other than FromSoftware big man Hidetaka Miyazaki. Miyazaki’s model, which was created by Nexus Mods user ngovandang for their Sekiro mod, wraps his arms around Patches and imbues him with holy light. The two then proceed to attack players in the hopes of ascending as both god and consort.
To make things more authentic, MRRCrychicQing was kind enough to replace the text during the cutscenes to better reflect Patches and Miyazaki’s unique relationship. The floor of the arena is also wet with poison, although it does not afflict the Poison status effect. This part of the mod references Miyazaki’s love of putting poison swamps in his games.
Elden Ring players will notice the irony in this mod. Patches, who can be summoned during the battle against Starscourge Radahn in the base game, immediately leaves once he sees what he is up against. Seeing him as Shadow of the Erdtree’s final campaign boss makes it feel like he is getting revenge for players beating him up in Murkwater Cave. With this mod installed, maybe players will think twice about stealing the merchant’s belongings in the next FromSoftware game.
