Nintendo Direct narrator’s “surprised” reactions to announced games have people thinking Nintendo wiped his memory 

Despite being a part of the recent Nintendo Direct, Japanese voice actor and narrator Yuichi Nakamura showed no less surprise to the games being announced than the many Nintendo fans who tuned in to the event on June 18, 2024. Nakamura, who is famous for voicing anime roles such as Satoru Gojo in Jujutsu Kaisen and Bruno Bucciarati in Jojo’s Bizzare Adventure, took to social media around the time that the Nintendo Direct aired to voice his excitement for the upcoming games.  His over-the-top “surprised” reactions have drawn laughter and humorous conspiracy theories from users,  

Nakamura’s involvement in the 43-minute-long Nintendo Direct means that he was aware of the upcoming game announcements long before they were officially unveiled. Nevertheless, watching the Nintendo Direct alongside fans seems to have proved the upcoming games’ existence for the narrator. While Nakamura’s reactions led to comments stating that he was pretending not to know, others were glad to see the voice actor finally free from his confidentiality agreement and openly voicing his excitement. Some commenters even went so far as to create wild conspiracy theories, like there being a clone of Nakamura at Nintendo headquarters or that Nakamura’s memory was wiped using the company’s advanced technology. 

In addition to his stuttered reactions, Nakamura shared two receipts: one for Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven Collector’s Edition and another for Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake’s Complete Set – both of which were announced at the Nintendo Direct he narrated. The Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven Collector’s Edition cost him 22,000 JPY (roughly 140 USD) while the Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake Complete Set put him back 20,770 JPY (132 USD). The standard versions of these games don’t cost as much, but the receipts show just how dedicated Nakamura is to these franchises in particular.
