The Exit 8 and Platform 8 will have no further sequels – developer is working on a horror adventure title slated for 2025 

Japanese solo indie developer Kotake Create has announced the completion of his “Number 8 series.” This means there will be no further sequels to The Exit 8 and Platform 8. 

Having released The Exit 8 in November 2023 and Platform 8 just last week, Kotake Create will now be focusing on completing and releasing Strange Shadow, a horror adventure game he has been working on since before The Exit 8’s launch. 

While The Exit 8 was an anomaly-themed walking simulator with a “spot-the-difference mechanic,” the recently released Platform 8 has the player figure out ways to get past anomalies to escape an endlessly looping train. At the time of writing, Platform 8 has a Very Positive status on Steam. 

Despite both titles’ success, it seems we will not see more sequels. As he explained via X, Kotake Create made The Exit 8 and Platform 8 out of his love for Japanese subways. Satisfied with the two games, he will be putting an end to the series and carrying on with the work-in-progress Strange Shadows. He also hints at a potential action game as his next project. 

Strange Shadows is a horror adventure game in which you survive a spaceship crash only to find yourself on a planet full of giant creatures. Gameplay will revolve around hiding and running from the monsters while looking for a way to escape the planet. The game has been in development since 2022, and Kotake Create has mentioned that The Exit 8 was a project he started as a break from working on Strange Shadows. 

The Exit 8 is available for the PC (Steam) and the Nintendo Switch. Platform 8 is available for the PC (Steam). Strange Shadow is planned to launch in 2025 on Steam.
