Street Fighter 6: Akuma’s secret onigiri move discovered faster than devs expected
Street Fighter 6’s May 22 update added Akuma to the playable character roster. Debuting in Street Fighter II Turbo back in 1994, anticipation had been building for Akuma’s appearance in SF6- as players were itching to try to pull off his rumored secret supers.
Akuma has hidden techniques that are not even listed in the official list of moves, and these have been widely discussed on social media. The secret supers are Kongo Kokuretsuzan and Misogi, plus an alternative way to perform Zanku Hadoken (aka. his classic double fireballs). However, pulling off these attacks requires Akuma to have a bit of a picnic beforehand.
First you must make Akuma stop to eat an onigiri (rice ball), which works like a third taunt. To do this, you must hold down all assigned attack buttons simultaneously while pressing the back directional input. You can make this even easier for yourself by editing the control mapping and assigning a single button for taunt. If performed correctly, Akuma will sit down with his back to your opponent and start chowing down on a rice ball (onigiri).
Now you must wait until Akuma has finished his snack before you can pull off the cool secret super moves listed below.
Onigiri (rice ball) taunt:
Classic Controls: | Back + Light Kick, Medium Kick, Heavy Kick, Light Punch, Medium Punch, Heavy Punch |
Modern Controls: | Back + Light Attack, Medium Attack, Heavy Attack |
Akuma secret super moves (after finishing Onigiri taunt):
Kongo Kokuretsuzan *consumes 2 SA gauges | ↓↓+PPP (↓↓+Medium-High in Modern Controls) |
Misogi *consumes 2 SA gauges | Face right, ↓↙←↓↙←+K (↓↓↓+Weak-Medium in Modern) |
Zanku Hadoken (double fireballs) | While jumping forward ↓↙←+PP |
These Kongo Kokurestuzan and Misogi techniques were originally thought to be exclusive to SiRN Akuma (a boss version of Akuma), so it’s exciting to get to use them yourself. Speaking of SiRN Akuma, you can try to beat him in the “Take down the Giant Akuma” event in the Battle Hub until June 1.
It seems Akuma’s secret snacking Easter Egg was discovered faster than the developers predicted. Street Fighter 6’s director Takayuki Nakayama took to X to comment on the revelation.
To try out Akuma’s onigiri-induced special moves, we recommend you perform them in Training Mode. It takes at least 16 seconds for Akuma to eat a rice ball and it’s doubtful many opponents would wait for you to finish snacking.
