Naoki Yoshida’s job title is absurdly long

Square Enix’s Naoki Yoshida’s lengthy job title just got even longer, catching the attention of Japanese news site Game Watch, as well as FF14 blogger Umadori among others (Top image credit: Famitsu).

Naoki Yoshida, nicknamed Yoshi-P, is best known for being the producer and director of the MMORPG Final Fantasy 14 and its expansions. On Square Enix’s English language corporate website, he is listed simply as “Vice President, Creative Business Unit III” (as of 2019). However, according to Game Watch, his full title in Japanese is even longer. This April it increased from an already impressive 102 characters to 105 characters (including spaces)- which feels like a lot in Japanese, as one character can sometimes be equivalent to one word. This increase was highlighted in the text and images below that were posted on Umadori:

A shorter version of Yoshi-P’s revised job title (Director, Executive Officer, and Creative Studio 3 Studio Head) can be seen in action on the header for an interview with him on Square Enix’s recruitment page for upcoming university graduates.

As a side note, Yoshi-P is getting attention on X today (May 1) as fans write messages wishing him happy birthday, in addition to commenting on his new job title. This is not the first and probably not the last time that the popular game creator has generated a buzz on Japanese social media, with X users scrutinizing his Rolex and other watches just last month
