Cities Skylines player in Japan recreates driving license test course in-game

Getting your car driving license can be nerve-racking as there’s so much you must remember to do correctly on the day of the test. A Japanese X user recently came up with a novel way of remembering the many twists and turns of their driving school’s test course- by recreating it in Cities: Skylines (using mods). This interesting idea prompted other users to share their experiences of learning to drive in Japan.

The process of learning to drive a car and getting your license varies from country to country. Japan is considered to be one of the more difficult countries to learn to drive in and those who want to get their license must attend a driving school. In addition to the theory test and clocking up the mandatory hours of driving practice, the final practical test is conducted on a course at the school. Although an instructor gives directions during the final exam, examinees must remember the course layout and the maneuvers they need to perform to pass.

Post translation: I can’t remember the driving school’s test course, so I made it in the game so I can practice.

Post translation: During the licensing examination, the instructor will tell you where to go. But before that, there is a practice run without the instructor where you must drive around the test course by yourself. You must memorize it as there is no-one to guide you.

Cities: Skylines is an open-ended city building simulator and it seems that X user kuhakuha_211 put a lot of effort into using it to create their driving test conditions. In addition to the course layout, they also added a training car.

Post translation: Please make your training car like this.
OP’s response: Here is the training car. I drive a Honda Grace in real life.

Commenters were impressed by the recreation, with some adding their own memories of learning to drive.

Japanese driving test practice with tomica toy cars comment
Post translation: Amazing.
This is in a different league to me- I couldn’t remember the course so I used Tomica toy cars to simulate it.
Post translation: When I was a university student, I saved Meinohama Driving School’s course on Google Maps. I used Street View to move around the route while keeping track of where to stop and the number of lanes in my head… (seriously).
Post translation: No matter how much you practice, if you do what I did and turn left when they tell you to turn right, you’ll be disqualified in an instant, so be careful.

Hopefully, all this effort will pay off and the original poster will pass their test. Have you ever used a game to help you remember something non-game related, and did it work?
