Chilla’s Art announces new anomaly-spotting horror game inspired by The Exit 8
Japanese indie developer Chilla’s Art announced Shinkansen 0 on January 26. The title is currently under development and planned for release on the PC (Steam). Shinkansen 0 will be available in English.
Chilla’s Art describes Shinkansen 0 as their take on the “I’m on Observation Duty/The Exit 8 genre” – in other words, a spot-the-difference horror game in which you need to identify anomalies in your surroundings. As the title indicates, the game is set on a Japanese bullet train, and in-game stills reveal an eerie and sterile looking Shinkansen interior.
It seems that Shinkansen 0 will have NPCs that guide you towards “either a good or bad ending.” As always, Chilla’s Art promises psychological horror that will drive players insane. Given the genre and setting, the gameplay in Shinkansen 0 may consist of progressing through the carts of the long bullet train while searching for anomalies.
The Exit 8 is a Japanese indie title that released in November last year and instantly became a hit for its creepy, backroom-inspired setting and anomaly-spotting gameplay. Its popularity triggered the appearance of many copy-cat/tribute games, resulting in the creation of a new subgenre. It seems that the cult indie duo Chilla’s Art has also taken inspiration from The Exit 8, and the combination of their signature horror style with the genre is definitely something to look forward to.
In 2023, Chilla’s Art released five horror titles, with Parasocial being a particularly notable release. Shinkansen 0 is their first announcement for 2024.
Shinkansen 0 is currently under development and scheduled to release for the PC (Steam).
