Japanese horror game developer Chilla’s Art announced on October 30 that their latest title The Kidnap will be releasing on November 1 (JST) for the PC (Steam). A trailer for the game has been revealed as well.
The Kidnap is a psychological horror game by Chilla’s art in which the player witnesses a kidnapping from the perspective of a grade schooler. Further details on the story have not been revealed, but the trailer shows scenes of an elementary school and what seems to be the protagonist’s home. There is also a scene in which the protagonist wanders on a rainy night, seemingly searching for his sister. Judging from the visuals provided, the game seems to tell a frightening story of a kidnapping that takes place in a rural area of Japan. As usual, the game promises to “drive you insane.”
System-wise, the game supports autosave, and progress is saved on a chapter-by-chapter basis. The film-inspired storyline is presented with atmospheric graphics and VHS-like effects, giving everything a spooky retro flavor. The VHS filters are optional too, so those who prefer not to play with them can turn them off through settings.
The Kidnap was developed by the game dev brothers Chilla’s Art, who have previously released numerous short horror games such as Red Cloak, The Closing Shift and The Convenience Store. Their games have continuously received attention from the community, especially being popularized by streamers and Let’s play videos.
Their most recent title, Parasocial, was released in August 2023 and has a “Overwhelmingly Positive” status on Steam with a 95% positive rating at the time of this writing. The scary atmospheres and fearful stories of their games are well-received in the community.
