RE4 remake: Thomas the Tank Engine makes his debut via PC mod
Capcom just released the Resident Evil 4 remake on March 24, but someone has already created a mod that adds Thomas the Tank Engine to the game.
Resident Evil 4 is a remake of the 2005 survival horror title of the same name. Taking place six years after the Racoon City Incident, Leon S. Kennedy, now a US government agent, heads to a rural village in Europe in order to rescue the president’s daughter, Ashley Graham, after she was kidnapped.
A modder known as Crazy Potato has created the El Thomas mod for the PC version of the game and released it on Nexus Mods. The mod replaces the boss Del Lago with a nightmarish version of Thomas the Tank Engine. You can see how it looks in-game by watching the video created by Crazy Potato below.
Del Lago is a massive monster salamander that serves as the game’s first major boss. It appears in the lake area and its overwhelming size—large enough that it could easily swallow a boat whole—strikes fear into the hearts of players. The El Thomas mod fuses the amphibious beast with the famous tank engine, and its metallic face and railway wheels produce a twisted feeling of terror.
Another major difference that this transformation makes from the original Del Lago is that you now know exactly where its eyes (Thomas’ eyes to be precise) are located. At around the 2 min mark in the video above, you can see El Thomas closing in on Leon’s boat with its jaws opened wide. The way it approaches while its eyes are trained in a different direction creates a strange kind of fear that differs from that of the original Del Lago.
This is far from the first time that Crazy Potato has turned a boss from the Resident Evil series into Thomas, as they also created the Count Theodora mod for Resident Evil Village, which puts Thomas’ face on Lady Dimitrescu. Crazy Potato also worked together with another modder named ZombieAli to create the Thomas The Tank Engine over Nemesis mod for the Resident Evil 3 remake, which replaces Nemesis with Thomas. There have been many other mods—mostly reskins—posted by Crazy Potato for the recent PC versions of games in the series.
Thomas the Tank Engine has become something of a mainstay in the world of PC game modding. Some recent examples include Fire-Breathing Thomas the Tank Engine in Elden Ring, and the ThomasBroom mod in Hogwarts Legacy. It was really only a matter of time before we saw Thomas make his way into the Resident Evil 4 remake too.
Furthermore, all kinds of mods for the PC version of the Resident Evil 4 remake continue to be posted on Nexus Mods. In terms of reskins, there is the Leon Kennedy Tramp Stamp mod, which shows off Leon’s midriff and gives him a tramp stamp, as well as a Shirtless Leon mod. There are even tools that help uses to create or manage mods. It’s clear that the Resident Evil 4 remake has proven popular among modders, so we are likely to see more mods being created at a steady pace in the future.
