Atlus has announced new details about the remastered version of Persona 4 Arena Ultimax in a series of new YouTube videos, mainly about the addition of rollback netcode support for the PlayStation 4 and Steam versions coming in summer 2022.
Persona 4 Arena Ultimax is a fighting game featuring characters from Persona 3 and Persona 4. It’s a sequel to Persona 4 Arena, which takes place a few months after the events of Persona 4. The protagonists must once again face the supernatural occurrence that surrounds the town of Inaba and participate in a mysterious TV show called P-1 Grand Prix.
There are 37 playable characters available in the game, including the members of the self-proclaimed Investigation Team. Combos can be performed by button mashing, and the fights in the story mode can be automated, making the game easy for fighting game beginners to play.
This remaster contains the latest Version 2.50, based on the arcade version of the game, with an improved resolution. Most of the previously released DLC characters, soundtracks, and stories are included, although not all of them could be included due to copyright reasons.
It was explained in the video above that they decided to support rollback netcode to meet the overseas fans’ expectations. Rollback netcode is a technology used to smooth out the gameplay experience in online matches. Conventional delay-based online matches are inevitably affected by input delay and lag. On the other hand, rollback netcode absorbs the delay by treating both players’ inputs as local and adjusting the graphic rendering based on the predictions of the opponent’s next input, offering a smoother online experience even when players live far away from each other.
The remastered version of Persona 4 Arena Ultimax is set to release on PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC (Steam) on March 17.
