{"id":9066,"date":"2022-01-28T19:39:44","date_gmt":"2022-01-28T10:39:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/?p=9066"},"modified":"2022-04-27T15:12:34","modified_gmt":"2022-04-27T06:12:34","slug":"20220128-9066","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/news\/20220128-9066\/","title":{"rendered":"There\u2019s an online game program that lets you experience what it\u2019s like to have dementia"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><br>Japanese non-profit organization issue+design has announced an online game program designed to deepen participants\u2019 knowledge and understanding of dementia. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The program is called <em>Ninchishou Sekai no Arukikata Play!<\/em> and it lets you experience what it\u2019s like to live as a person with dementia. Online trials are scheduled to start in February, and the organizer is now accepting applications with an entry fee of 3,000 yen (around $25). While the game itself is browser-based, participants are required to use Zoom to communicate with the event organizer and give feedback.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"playmovie 0126\" width=\"1160\" height=\"870\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Lm3Hp3J2-dA?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The program is like a board game where you spin a wheel and move the number of spaces indicated by the wheel. An event is assigned to each space that lets you experience what people with dementia are going through on a daily basis. For example, acting based on past events or memories as if they are happening right now, like trying to go to work in the morning even though they\u2019re already retired.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The game\u2019s world is filled with mysterious locations such as a bus that makes you gradually lose your memory, a town that takes you back in time, and a village where everyone is faceless. You have to overcome a certain situation at each event space and come out of it with a deepened knowledge about the symptoms of dementia. There are over 190 events for you to experience, and you can communicate with other players who have landed in the same space via voice chat or text chat.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1280\" height=\"777\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1280px) 100vw, 1280px\" src=\"http:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/20220128-9066-001.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9068\" srcset=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/20220128-9066-001.jpg 1280w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/20220128-9066-001-600x364.jpg 600w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/20220128-9066-001-380x231.jpg 380w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/20220128-9066-001-768x466.jpg 768w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/20220128-9066-001-150x91.jpg 150w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/20220128-9066-001-300x182.jpg 300w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/20220128-9066-001-696x422.jpg 696w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/20220128-9066-001-1068x648.jpg 1068w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/20220128-9066-001-692x420.jpg 692w\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><br>This program was made based on issue+design\u2019s book called <em>Ninchishou Sekai no Arukikata <\/em>(<em>\u8a8d\u77e5\u75c7\u4e16\u754c\u306e\u6b69\u304d\u65b9<\/em>), which was written based on interviews with around 100 people who are experiencing dementia.
