Hironobu Sakaguchi is a game developer known as the father of <em>Final Fantasy<\/em> and was involved in numerous titles at Square Enix before going independent and founding Mistwalker in 2004. Mistwalker has since released titles like <em>Blue Dragon<\/em>, <em>Last Story<\/em>, <em>Terra Battle<\/em>, and <em>Fantasian<\/em>, which came out last year and won Apple Arcade Game of the Year in the App Store Awards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"ja\" dir=\"ltr\">\u65ad\u5ff5\u3057\u305f\u30c9\u30c3\u30c8\u7d75\u4f01\u753b\u3002<br>\u4e3b\u4eba\u516c\u306f\u3082\u3061\u308d\u3093\u30ab\u30a8\u30eb\uff57<br>2022\u306e\u58c1\u7d19\u306b\u3067\u3082\u3069\u3046\u305e\u3002<br><br>A dot-art project that I gave up on.<br>The main character is of course a frog.<br>You can use it as wallpaper for 2022. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/qaTK7d6H2V\">pic.twitter.com\/qaTK7d6H2V<\/a><\/p>&mdash; \u5742\u53e3\u535a\u4fe1 (@auuo) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/auuo\/status\/1477639845816135682?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 2, 2022<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><br>The screenshot shows a frog, a robot, and a goat-like character standing by a river. But unlike regular pixel art, the image also has a sense of depth. The water in the river appears to be made in 3D, and there are light beam effects as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This kind of depiction bears a strong resemblance to the HD-2D used in Square Enix\u2019s <em>Octopath Traveler<\/em>. In fact, the rocks on the sides of the image look just like the ones found on the Coastlands in <em>Octopath Traveler<\/em>. For that reason, it\u2019s possible the image is just concept art using assets borrowed from <em>Octopath Traveler<\/em>. It\u2019s also possible that there was no project to begin with and the image was just made for fans to enjoy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sakaguchi also commented, \u201cThe main character is of course a frog.\u201d It\u2019s not totally clear why he uses \u201cof course\u201d here, but Sakaguchi <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/auuo\/status\/1463709012038336513\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">tweeted<\/a> a screenshot of a character he created in <em>Final Fantasy XIV<\/em> looking like Frog from <em>Chrono Trigger<\/em> back in November of last year. He apparently did this at the request of fans. At any rate, it doesn\u2019t sound like work will continue on the game going forward. The tweet did gather responses from fans wishing the project didn\u2019t get shelved, though.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sakaguchi has stated, \u201cWith the completion of <em>Fantasian<\/em>, 2022 is planned to be a year of rest,\u201d (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.4gamer.net\/games\/999\/G999905\/20211220028\/index_8.html#mis_sak\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">4Gamer<\/a>). It looks like the possibility of a new announcement this year is low.
