Ryuki Ishii based on the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/articles\/newsjp\/20211221-186687\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">original Japanese article<\/a>&nbsp;(original article&#8217;s publication date: 2021-12-21 14:45 JST)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>Square Enix has released the <a href=\"https:\/\/na.finalfantasyxiv.com\/lodestone\/topics\/detail\/bba3f0b1f5c8d2708d7a126957ad76fb30c4eb71\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">patch notes<\/a> for <em><strong>Final Fantasy XIV<\/strong><\/em> <strong>Patch 6.01<\/strong>, which adds the Pand\u00e6monium: Asphodelos raid dungeon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A couple of adjustments were made to \u201cIn from the Cold,\u201d the main quest that revolves around stealth sequences. Some players were <a href=\"https:\/\/forum.square-enix.com\/ffxiv\/threads\/449642?p=5752230\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">pointing<\/a> out that the stealth part is too hard for people who are not familiar with stealth-oriented games, even on the Very Easy difficulty. It looks like their voices were heard and the instanced battles got easier on low difficulty settings:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background\" style=\"background-color:#f8fafb\">*These adjustments are only applicable when choosing the Easy or Very Easy difficulties after failing the duty.<br><br>&#8211; The effects of the Indomitable Spirit status effect have been increased<br>&#8211; The initial number of uses of the duty action has been increased.<br>&#8211; To more easily locate certain items required to progress in this duty, the amount of fuel-concealing wreckage in the area has been increased.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In regard to sound effects and character voices, changes were made to things that were unpopular among players. The Scholar\u2019s Broil IV, for example, <a href=\"https:\/\/forum.square-enix.com\/ffxiv\/threads\/448017-%E5%AD%A6%E8%80%85%E3%81%AE%E6%A5%B5%E7%82%8E%E6%B3%95%E3%81%AE%E5%8A%B9%E6%9E%9C%E9%9F%B3%E3%81%AB%E3%81%A4%E3%81%84%E3%81%A6%E3%81%AE%E5%A4%89%E6%9B%B4%E8%A6%81%E6%9C%9B?p=5727776\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">made some players uncomfortable<\/a> with its weirdly manly sound effect. Broil IV is one of the most used Scholar actions in the game, so players had to keep listening to it over and over again. That had apparently changed with Patch 6.01.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cCombat sounds for Voice 4 of male Viera\u201d received an update as well. Male Viera became playable with the recent Endwalker expansion, but Voice 4 had some awkward combat sounds which some players found likable, while others found it unpleasant. It\u2019s troubling for players who don\u2019t like the voice, especially since players can\u2019t check the combat sounds during the character creation phase and they have to pay extra in order to change the voice afterward. So it is understandable that Square Enix decided to take action early. It\u2019s a little sad that I won\u2019t be able to hear that oddly memorable voice anymore, but I\u2019m curious to hear what it\u2019ll sound like after the adjustments.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" src=\"http:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/20211221-186687-001.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7806\" srcset=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/20211221-186687-001.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/20211221-186687-001-600x338.jpg 600w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/20211221-186687-001-380x214.jpg 380w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/20211221-186687-001-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/20211221-186687-001-150x84.jpg 150w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/20211221-186687-001-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/20211221-186687-001-696x392.jpg 696w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/20211221-186687-001-1068x601.jpg 1068w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/20211221-186687-001-747x420.jpg 747w\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><br>Next, the low poly grapes in Labyrinthos got a poly count upgrade. \u201cAn issue wherein the polygon count of grapes in Labyrinthos were reduced in excess to alleviate system memory usage in the area. They have been adjusted to be comparable to those found at the Crystarium.\u201d The grapes in Labyrinthos were indeed low in polygon count, but now we know that they were excessively low even for the developers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The low poly grapes have been a topic of conversation ever since their implementation and the following tweet by Low Poly Videogame Foods:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Grapes &#8211; Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker (2021) <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/kV2WRDJ71s\">pic.twitter.com\/kV2WRDJ71s<\/a><\/p>&mdash; Low Poly Videogame Foods (@LowPolly) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/LowPolly\/status\/1467324025777045504?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 5, 2021<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><em>FFXIV<\/em> is an MMORPG, which means it needs to save memory usage to make room for high-priority tasks and make it so that the servers can handle the high player count. Allocating polygons to trivial objects such as grapes isn\u2019t on the high priority list. A grape is made up of multiple sphere-shaped objects and it\u2019ll eat up a lot of poly counts if the developers were to model it properly.
