Ryuki Ishii based on the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/articles\/newsjp\/20211220-186563\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">original Japanese article<\/a>&nbsp;(original article&#8217;s publication date: 2021-12-20 16:55<\/em> <em>JST)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>The <strong>Hearthstone 2021 World Championship<\/strong> took place on December 19-20, and Wataru \u201cPosesi\u201d Ishibashi took home the crown, earning the first-place prize of $200,000. The reigning champion Kenta \u201cglory\u201d Sato, who is also a Japanese player, finished second, taking home the second-place prize of $100,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"posesi vs glory | GRAND FINAL | Hearthstone 2021 World Championship\" width=\"1160\" height=\"653\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/GFAymY5KmcI?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Six players from Grandmasters and two players from the Chinese Gold Series participated in the event. Posesi earned a spot by winning Season 1 of the Asia-Pacific Grandmasters. Matches were played with the 4 Hero 1 Ban rule in place, where each player brings 4 decks, bans one of the opponent\u2019s decks, and competes in a best-of-five Conquest format.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This year&#8217;s championship was full of highlights, with Kenta \u201cglory\u201d Sato attempting a first-ever two-peat and Gabriel &#8220;Gaby&#8221; Jeanne, a highly skilled player who was previously too young to participate in official matches, making a much-anticipated appearance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Posesi faced the tournament favorite Gaby in the first round. Posesi\u2019s deck seemed disadvantageous against Gaby, but he was able to outplay Gaby and win the round 3-0.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Posesi struggled in the semi-final against Kyle \u201cMcBanterFace\u201c Spigelman, but was saved by the opponent\u2019s mistake, and managed to win 3-2. The combo deck used in the current meta utilizes the same card for both offense and defense, and this match showed how one mistake can lead to a defeat when using the meta deck.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Grand Final between Posesi and glory was also a close match, with Posesi barely topping glory by 3-2. Even the poker-faced Posesi couldn\u2019t help but throw his fists up in the air and smile when he secured the victory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"ja\" dir=\"ltr\">\u6210\u3057\u3068\u3052\u305f\u305e\u30fc\u30fc\u30fc\u3001\u6700\u5f37\u3058\u3083\u30fc\u30fc\u30fc\u30fc\u30fc\u3044<\/p>&mdash; posesi (@posesi8) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/posesi8\/status\/1472704131463004162?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 19, 2021<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><figcaption><font size=\"2\">\u201cI\u2019ve done it, I\u2019m the best\u201d<\/font><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><br><em>Hearthstone<\/em> isn\u2019t particularly popular in Japan, but the competitive scene is pretty fierce and high level. I (the original author of this article) don\u2019t think it was a series of luck that a Japanese player took the crown two years in a row.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Starting next year, official tournaments for the Battlegrounds, a game mode that uses the auto-battler mechanic, will begin.
