Bandai Namco Entertainment\u2019s Yusuke Tomizawa took to Twitter to apologize for comments he made about previous series entry Tales of Zestiria<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since 2016, Tomizawa has been the producer in charge of the Tales of <\/em>brand as a whole, and also acted as the producer of this year\u2019s Tales of Arise<\/em>. That title shipped over one million units in its first week and has been considered a huge success.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During CEDEC+KYUSHU 2021 ONLINE, Tomizawa gave a keynote speech about challenging and pushing the series forward with Tales of Arise<\/em>. It was during this talk that Tomizawa made comments about Tales of Zestiria<\/em> which he subsequently apologized for.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The producer on Tales of Zestiria<\/em> wasn\u2019t Tomizawa, but Hideo Baba, the previous series producer and brand manager. The game received a lot of criticism regarding its heroine and what was advertised before release versus what was actually in the game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After the game launched, Baba recognized that they refrained from releasing certain information to surprise players, but that it just invited confusion (via Fam<\/a>i<\/a>tsu<\/a>). As a result, even a voice actor became the target of criticism, and the incident left a stain on the series.

Taking that into account, during his CEDEC+KYUSHU 2021 ONLINE speech, Tomizawa placed Tales of Zestiria<\/em> as the starting point of the brand\u2019s crisis (via Famitsu<\/a>). Tomizawa\u2019s intention was likely to acknowledge the problem of insufficient communication with users and talk about how to deal with that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But it seems that some users took Tomizawa\u2019s comments to mean that Tales of Zestiria<\/em> itself was responsible for the start of Tales of series\u2019 crisis<\/em>. Many users agreed with what was said during the presentation, but you can also see users on Twitter sharing their doubts about Tomizawa\u2019s stance. Tomizawa recognized this and took to Twitter to apologize.
