All products were created by having the AI generate the ideas, and product developers then refined them through repeated prototyping and testing. While the use of AI at the convenience store chain has been reported in the past, this marks the first time Lawson has used the tech to produce and market a product.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The three newly offered items Lawson revealed were the \u201cPickle-flavored Lemon Tarts\u201d, \u201cRed bean paste, Butter, and Yogurt-filled Sakadane Bread Rolls\u201d, and the \u201cJapanese-style Parfait Salad\u201d. According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lawson.co.jp\/company\/news\/detail\/1532206_2504.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Lawson\u2019s press release<\/a>, the generative AI used to create ideas was deliberately not fed past sales performance statistics or market data. The statement explained that this was done in order to draw out ideas \u201cunbound by existing concepts \u00a0or market trends\u201d, ensuring that the final product has been moderated and tested by a human development team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"753\" height=\"293\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 753px) 100vw, 753px\" src=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/20260924-728970001.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-72901\" srcset=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/20260924-728970001.jpg 753w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/20260924-728970001-380x148.jpg 380w\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Lawson additionally stated that customer feedback, sales projections, and market data taken from the release of these products may lead the company to consider expanding on the \u201cAI-based\u201d product line in the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">FamilyMart, another major convenience store chain, has also applied AI recently, but with a different approach. According to a <a href=\"https:\/\/tokyonewsmedia.com\/archives\/28110\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Tokyo News Media<\/a> reporting, the chain announced that an AI designed French-style canel\u00e9 dessert pastry made with sweet potato puree and caramel sauce is now available. The company has previously experimented with the use of AI in product development, producing a biscuit sandwich filled with milk cream in July, which the company has reported to be a success in its eyes, leading to the continuation of the concept.
