Update: <\/strong>This article previously mentioned that “the developers said the game was 99% complete,” but SEGA has since clarified that this statement was based on a mistranslation that happened during the live event at the venue. SEGA held a special \u201cFuntime SHOW\u201d stage event during Tokyo Game Show 2026, part of which was dedicated to Lollipop Chainsaw 2 Back2Back, the new zombie action game by Dragami Games.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Scheduled to launch in 2027 for PlayStation 5, Back2Back is the latest entry in the Lollipop Chainsaw series, following the original 2012 zombie action game and its 2024 remaster, Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP. In Lollipop Chainsaw 2 Back2Back, Juliet returns as the heroine, wielding her chainsaw to once again mow down hordes of zombies. She will sport a new outfit, and is apparently even more powerful. Juliet\u2019s boyfriend Nick also makes a comeback in the familiar form of a severed head.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project is being developed through a collaboration between Dragami Games, Taiwan-based IP investment and development company NADA HOLDINGS, and developer JP UNIVERSE. JP UNIVERSE is led by Hajime Tabata, who previously worked on the Final Fantasy series and other Square Enix titles. Masahiro Yuki, who handled the scenario for the Lollipop Chainsaw, and character designer and artist NekoshowguN are also involved in the project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the Tokyo Game Show 2026 stage event, Dragami Games President and CEO Shohei Sato was joined by NADA HOLDINGS founder and CEO Joe Teng, JP UNIVERSE’s Hajime Tabata, and development director Yasuaki Nasu to talk about the game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The team revealed that the Back2Back project was initiated by NADA HOLDINGS. Joe Teng himself is apparently a huge fan of Lollipop Chainsaw, and in 2022, when the Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP remaster was announced, he approached Dragami Games with a proposal for a sequel, which is how the project kicked off.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although detailed information regarding gameplay has yet to be revealed, the event showcased some footage of the game running in Unreal Engine and introduced three \u201ckey aspects\u201d of the project, the first of which is \u201ccharacters.\u201d To make protagonist Juliet stand out even more among the zombie hordes, the developers said they aim to take her \u201cfrom a star to a superstar.\u201d They also explained that they are striving to give her a universally cool and appealing look in order to attract new fans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The second is the game’s \u201ccute and crazy world.\u201d The previous game combined pop, cute, kitschy, and stylish elements that contrasted its horror setting. The new title will build on this foundation and take it to an even more \u201cover-the-top\u201d level. The developers also suggested that they plan to expand upon the world depicted in the original game. Last but not least is \u201cexhilarating action.\u201d The devs are focusing on making the action feel satisfying and intuitive, while also ensuring that Juliet herself looks appealing during combat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the developers, they’ve still yet to reveal 99% of what the game will offer. A trailer for the game was shown at the venue as well. Though the footage was deliberately toned down for the occasion, the developers say they plan to gradually reveal more of the game\u2019s \u201cextreme\u201d sides going forward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
